OUR HISTORY
The Bagel tradition of the author’s family traces back to 1901, when their paternal great-grandfather, Grandpa Anshel, emigrated from Austria to New York City and opened multiple Bagel bakeries in the tri-state area. Decades later, after World War II, the maternal grandfather, Grandpa Herb, joined the family, married Anshel’s granddaughter, and opened Flatlands Bagels in Brooklyn in 1964. Herb’s Bagels became widely popular, leading to mass production. Further on, future generation entered the Bagel business and opened several establishments, including
Jerusalem Bagel Bakery and Main Street Bagels in Queens. Over a Century, the family has maintained its commitment to quality and community, continuing to serve fresh bagels and other foods throughout New York City and beyond.
